Race Background Information
The seventh Magalies Monster MTB Classic took place on the 30th May 2009. The Classic has grown in numbers and reputation since its humble beginning of an “out ride” with 25 riders in 2002, to 240 participants competing in the first Magalies Monster in 2003 and now to 1250 participants taking part in 2009.

Event Proceeds
Proceeds of the event go towards social development programmes initiated by Dominee John Vosloo and his congregation, as well as other worthy causes in and around the surrounding communities. Some of these include: the Mission Outreach in the Wonderkop Community; Congregational funds for poverty upliftment; and the Bible Society of South Africa.
An initiative started in the 2005 Magalies Monster, whereby the Route Marshals (who are all sourced from the surrounding rural communities) are given a bicycle or a bicycle maintenance hamper. All new Route Marshals received a MTB and Route marshals from the previous year received a bicycle maintenance hamper.
5% of the riders entry also goes into a “Keep the Valley Clean” fund which provides the necessary resources for picking up litter, creating awareness and creating pride for the Buffelspoort Valley.
Proceeds also go into the up-keep and maintenance of the routes that will ensure the routes will be available for many years to come. This involves the construction of gabions, erosion berms and building new bridges.
